KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO) – The schedule for the 2012 Western Michigan University football team was released on Thursday. New to the schedule are Eastern Illinois (Sept 8), Minnesota (Sept 15), UMass (Oct 6) and Buffalo (Nov 11). Two BCS schools return to the Broncos non-conference schedule, Illinois (Sept 1) and UConn (Sept 22) . The Huskies will be the first BCS School to play at Waldo Stadium since the 2007 season opener against Indiana. The Fighting Illini will look familiar as former Toledo Head Coach Tim Beckham takes over a program that lost 6 straight games to end the regular season after winning their first 6 games, including a 23-20 victory over the Broncos.

CommUniverCity Night will be Saturday, September 8th against Division 1AA Eastern Illinois.

The Broncos open MAC play on September 29 with Beckman’s former team, in a rematch of the highest scoring game in Division 1 during 2011. The following week UMass heads to Kalamazoo, as the Broncos celebrate the University’s 89th Homecoming Game. This will be the first matchup between the Broncos and the Minutemen.

For the first time since 2008, the Broncos will travel to Buffalo. The last 2 games for the Broncos against the Bulls have ended with an overtime victory for WMU.

After moving “The Battle for the Cannon” Game against Central Michigan to the 3rd game of the season in 2011, the archrivals will continue the rivalry on a more tradition date, November 3rd.

Western ends the season at home against Eastern Michigan on November 17th.

All 12 of the Broncos games will be on Saturday after playing games on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday last season.
