Record Breaking Night, Broncos Lose Shootout 66-63

Toledo, OH (WKZO) -- WMU and Toledo combined for MAC records 1,439 total offensive yards, 129 combined points and scored 18 touchdowns, as the Rockets took a step closer to a MAC West Title with a 66-63 victory over the Broncos.

Despite the loss, WMU quarterback Alex Carder and wide receiver Jordan White each broke Bronco records.

Carder threw for a Bronco record 546 yards, topping the previous record set by Carder earlier this season against UConn. His 7 touchdown passes also tied the MAC record. The junior finished 38 of 59, had no interceptions, and connected on TD passes to 5 different receivers. He also had a rushing touchdown.

Jordan White broke or tied 4 Bronco records against Toledo. The 6th year senior had 16 receptions, 237 yards and 3 touchdowns. His 16 receptions tied Greg Jennings for the Bronco record for most in a game. White is also now the all-time leader in Bronco history with 3,678 career yards, 111 receptions in a season, and 17 career 100 yard games.  His 237 yards was the 3rd most in a game ever for a Bronco.

Kicker John Potter connected on 9 extra points and is now tied for all-time lead in scoring in Bronco history. He is currently tied with Brad Selent at 307 career points. Potter also broke the MAC record for most consecutive PATs made at 114.

Wide receiver Josh Shaffer had a career high 114 yards receiver and Portage native Eric Monett had a career high 6 receptions.

Johnnie Simon led the defense with 18 tackles. Donald Celiscar had 2 fumble recoveries and an interception, while Doug Wiggans had an interception return for a touchdown and Demetrius Pettway had a pick as well.

The loss drops the Broncos record to 5-5, 3-3 in the MAC and Toldeo improves to 6-4 and 5-1 in the MAC.

WMU and Toledo traded the lead 6 times and were tied 6 times as well. The 2 teams went into halftime tied 28-28.

Toledo running back Adonis Thomas had 216 yards on the ground and 2 touchdowns. Morgan Williams also had 2 touchdowns for the Rockets.

Terrance Owens had 318 yards passing on 22 of 27, with 3 touchdowns and an interception.

GAME NOTES: Toledo won the time of possession battle 39:30-20:30…Tevin Drake lead the Broncos in rushing with 71 yards on 13 carries…Chleb Ravenell had 6 receptions and 85 yards plus a TD…The Broncos forced 6 turnovers against the Rockets. Toledo had 6 total turnovers in their first 9 games…Aaron Winchester and Devon Brant each had 10 tackles…Western Michigan has two games remaining on its 2011 regular season schedule with a trip to Miami on Nov. 16 scheduled to air on either ESPN or ESPN2.  The Broncos will need to win out to secure a 7-5 record and the opportunity to play in a post-season bowl game for the third time in six seasons.
