LANSING (WKZO) — A state senator who did two tours in Iraq wants to help ease the transition for veterans returning from their tours of duty.
Senator David Knezek is hoping to make it easier for veterans suffering from PTSD to get properly trained service dogs. Additionally the senator wants veterans using services dogs for PTSD and traumatic brain injury to be protected under the same rules that cover anyone using a service dog because of a physical disability.
In the Detroit Free Press Senator Knezek is quoted saying, “In the next five to 10 years, Michigan’s going to have upwards of ten-thousand additional veterans coming home — if we’re going to send these guys and gals overseas, we have to be willing to take care of them when they come home.”
