Des Moines, IA (WKZO) – In the first ever meeting between the Western Michigan men’s basketball team and Drake, the Bulldogs were able to erase an eight point deficit in the second half to escape with a 71-68 victory over the Broncos
Jacob Enevold Jensen scored 16 to lead the Bulldogs off the bench and Jordan Daniels had 14 points and seven assists for Drake who trailed 49-41 with 11:13 left in the game. But Drake went on a 12-3 after then to take the lead. While the Broncos regained the lead at 66-65 with 52 seconds left, a three-pointer from Trevor Berkeley put the Bulldogs in the lead and some late free throws sealed the victory for Drake.
MAC leading score David Brown had 23, while Connar Tava finished just one rebound short of a double-double (16 points and nine rebounds). Shayne Whittington had 15 but was held to his lowest rebounding total on the season with just four. However, Taylor Perry continued to provide a spark for the Broncos in just his second start for the injured Tucker Haymond. Perry hauled in 11 rebounds, the same total he had in the Broncos last game against Missouri.
The Broncos shot 45.3% from the field and led 36-33 at halftime.
After losing all three games during their road trip, the Broncos return to University Arena on Saturday to take on Prairie View A&M at University Arena at 2pm.
