  • Confusing Billboard- Tax Auction in Kalamazoo

    Posted by Jay Morris

I am confused by this billboard

    Someone answer two questions

    1.  Isn't it interesting the tax sale is right before the August primary election?

    2.  Does the county really think they will have more bidders with a photo of the county treasurer on the billboard?

  • List of November ballot issues in Michigan

    Posted by Jay Morris

How many ballot issues do groups really think we the electorate actually want to get involved with? The magic number seems to be 7. Yesterday three more groups submitted signatures to their issue to the November ballot According to clickondetroit.com.

    The latest ballot issues would:

Require a supermajority vote in the Legislature to raise Michigan taxes

Give voters the final say over whether international bridges can be built between Michigan and Canada (call this one the Maroon voter issue)

Allow home health workers to unionize and be listed in a statewide registry

Four other ballot issues already on the ballot include:

Raising the number of casinos in Michigan

Require utilities to get 25 percent of their power from renewable sources by 2025

Add collective bargaining rights into the state constitution

Repeal the law giving emergency managers wide powers to void union contracts and cut spending.

Looks to be something here for every political stance. Turnout will mean everything.

The real question is are seven ballot issues too many ?
