PARK TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — St. Joseph County authorities are investigating a fatal car accident Tuesday afternoon that left a Portage man dead. Sheriff’s Deputies were called to the 52000 Block of Parkville Rd. in Park Township at around 1:30 p.m..
The driver of a delivery vehicle had veered off the roadway and into a field. It was determined that the vehicle, headed northbound at the time, struck a guidewire for a power pole and a pile of scrap metal, before coming to rest in a field.
Investigators say the driver may have suffered a possible medical issue that led to the crash. The driver was determined to be a 60-year-old male from Portage. Deputies attempted life-saving measures, but the driver was pronounced dead at the crash scene. His name has not been released.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Fabius/Park Fire Department and the Three Rivers Fire Department.
